Advent is a season celebrated among Christians during the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. It is a time where we prepare for Jesus’ arrival into the world.
One tradition I love is the advent wreath. One candle is lit each Sunday to remind us of a particular aspect of the Advent season: faithfulness, hope, joy, and love.
For these four weeks of Advent I would also like to focus on preparing for Christ’s birth by talking about each candle representation beginning with faithfulness.
How can we be faithful in spreading Jesus’ message of love and grace to the world while we wait expectantly for his return?
One such way is to practice hospitality. We can open our homes to others and invite them to celebrate the Christmas season with us.
We can talk to our children about God’s love for us demonstrated by sending Jesus to earth to one day save the world.
We can read an Advent or Christmas devotional to help keep our focus on God and our hearts and minds tuned to receiving and giving his love during the season.
We can set up a nativity scene or other decor to help us keep our eyes on Jesus.
How do you prepare your home during the Christmas season?
