While You Were Skiing was inspired by my love for the Christmas romcom While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. I watch it every holiday season (and sometimes in the middle of the year). It’s my favorite feel-good holiday movie that never fails to make me laugh and swoon. While You Were Skiing is my love letter to the movie and includes references to the movie. The book takes place in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, rather than Chicago. I have a friend whose family visits Steamboat Springs every year and, when I told her I wanted to set a story at a ski resort, told me she had the perfect location. I did lots of research, but have not spent any meaningful time in Colorado, so please forgive any mistakes (but feel free to let me know where I missed the mark if you’re a Colorado resident as there may be a sequel in the future).
